Still going strong with apples. And I still have 4 bags in my house along with a bag of crabapples now. It's going to be a busy weekend.
6.75 pounds of green apples were canned in a medium/light syrup. Same process as my previous apples in syrup post except I went a tad bit sweeter with these.
4 pounds of apples went into the dehydrator for apple chips. I get one packed quart per dehydrator load of 2 pounds.
12 pounds of tart apples were used for apple juice (future apple wine). This process is really simple. You wash, core, and chop apples into medium pieces and bring to a boil (with 12 pounds of apples you can use 4 cups of water to add to your pot for boiling). Then reduce to a simmer and stir occasionally until the apples just start breaking down. Then strain over night through cheesecloth over a pot in order to get every last drop of juice.
Intimidating Minnow and I carried out the apple juice process at his house. While the simmering was going on we looked up ways to analyze our handwriting. We were both hoping neither one of us were serial killers. If I found out something bad about him I was going to have to leave all that apple juice, but fortunately it all went ok. Sorta. It turns out he has more loops than I do. I have more straight vertical lines. His words lean a little right, mine straight up and down with an occasional left slant (probably due to mom realizing I was left-handed and having me switch as a kid). Also, Intimidating Minnow's handwriting indicates he is more sociable than I am, and I can be stubborn and curt. Screw that.
