Week 8 is over. The weeks are getting easier and easier. I've become less preoccupied with concerns about what to cook. Things are going well! Five weeks to go, and then tacos de lengua with guac and margaritas...
Day 50
breakfast: white mulberry smoothie with leftover light syrup from pears
lunch: baked bass with herbs and wild onions, gooseberry galette
dinner: fried potato and spinach sandwich with mayo and roasted garlic on soda farl
A white mulberry smoothie is gross. Don't try it. I drank it all to be a good sport.

The apple and black walnut bread was made in the exact same way as the spiced pear bread I made recently, except I used some thawed apples from the freezer and about a half cup of black walnuts. Delicious.

Day 53
breakfast: apple and black walnut bread, pears
dinner: bluegill tacos with fresh spinach and hot salsa
It finally happened. The spinach in the raised beds got some nice weather, and I was able to make those bluegill tacos again! I put oregano in my corn tortilla pan bread.

Day 54
lunch: fresh spinach salad with hard boiled eggs and olive oil and salt
snack: apple and black walnut bread
dinner: venison chili (ground venison, black beans, wild onion, crushed tomatoes, herbs), griddle cakes
With the spinach I picked yesterday I was able to get a fresh salad out of it too. And Crystal gave me great advice recently about hard boiling and peeling fresh eggs, so I tested it out and it worked perfectly. Basically you put the eggs in the water while the water is hot (but not yet boiling) instead of putting them in the water at the very start. Then after the eggs are boiling, turn off the heat and cover for 14 minutes like normal. Immediately put the eggs in a bowl of cold water with ice to cool rapidly. They peel nicely!
